Traffic: Making Or Breaking Your Site
One thing that constantly bugs me about many of the products that get released is that they don’t tell you how to bring traffic to your site. You get a large e-book that tells you how to build an amazing site but not one chapter on traffic generation
When I was starting out I spent lots of money on site building tools and keyword tools and nothing on learning how to generate traffic. I now know how stupid that was. The tools might have been the best in the world but without traffic the end results were worthless.
If you go to Google or yahoo and look at the bottom of the search listings you will find some really great looking sites. But languishing down there they don’t earn any money or get visitors so there was no point in building them. If you go to any of the forums where you can buy sites you’ll see the most popular questions are how much money does it earn? and what is the traffic? You can make any site with good quality traffic earn money. So always look for site with traffic rather than income.
Take time to develop your own traffic delivery system and you’ll have one less thing to worry about. Take time to find out what works and what doesn’t. I created a video for my members yesterday about how to get a site indexed and start generating traffic and I found something that got a new site into Google in less than 18 hours.
Using that method was completely new to me and although it impressed me it might have been a lucky one-off. I used it on another new domain this morning and found that it only took 3 hours before my site was referenced in Google. 3 Hours! Now that is very impressive.
I’ve read lots of books on traffic generation and not one of them has mentioned this service. This is not surprising as the reason for this is that the Internet is changing on an almost daily basis what worked great last month doesn’t work as well this month. Take Squidoo for example, it used to be the best way to get a site indexed but not anymore.
One great method of seeing what services and sites are worth putting your links on is by looking at Internet marketing niches. Internet marketers have never been slow in finding the best ways of getting indexed. Look at what sites are ranking for various search terms. If you find a web 2.0 site or a blog site test it on your sites and see how it performs. If it gives you results add it to your list of traffic generators.
By planning your traffic generation using the tools you discover you can quickly start to dominate search engine listings. By careful manipulation of your linking strategies it is often possible to grab many of the top 10 listings.
